چکیده
The propagation of inertio-gravity waves (IGW) into the deep sea is relevant for energy transfer to turbulence where break, and thus redistribution nutrients, oxygen, suspended matter. In constant stratification, vertical IGW readily modelled. varying homogeneous layers alternate with stratified layers, transmission, reflection cause complex patterns. Half-year long moored acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) observations midway between Balearic Islands Sardinia in 2800-m Western-Mediterranean Sea occasionally demonstrate a distinct transition, weakly (N ≥ 2f) ≤ f) at near-inertial frequencies. Here, N denotes buoyancy frequency f local inertial (vertical Coriolis parameter). transition stratification rather abrupt, within Δz = 25 m, provides an amplitude reduction 1.3 super-inertial motions. Simulations non-traditional momentum equations involving horizontal parameter fh qualitatively confirm observed refraction. observational area marked by variations hydrographic characteristics, abundant mesoscale eddies south dense-water formation north site during previous winter. Thus, also transitions occur from deeper, recently formed ones. Polarization spectra shear are bound IGW-limits related f, while polarization 2fh. These frequencies coincide large-scale independently various using shipborne CTD profiling.

Seismic Wave Propagation and Perfectly Matched Layers Using a GFDM
Abstract. The interior of the Earth is heterogeneous with different material and may have complex geometry. The free surface can also be uneven. Therefore, the use of a meshless method with the possibility of using and irregular grid-point distribution can be interest for modelling this kind of problem. This paper shows the application of Generalized Finite Difference Method (GFDM) to the probl...
متن کاملWave Propagation near a Smooth Caustic
A caustic is an envelope of a family of rays of geometrical optics. At a caustic, the usual equations of geometrical optics are not valid. We give a formal asymptotic series, valid both near and away from a smooth caustic, which satisfies the differential equation exactly. In the case of high-frequency oscillations, the solution is represented in terms of the Airy function and its derivative. T...
متن کاملRheological Response and Validity of Viscoelastic Model Through Propagation of Harmonic Wave in Non-Homogeneous Viscoelastic Rods
This study is concerned to check the validity and applicability of a five parameter viscoelastic model for harmonic wave propagating in the non-homogeneous viscoelastic rods of varying density. The constitutive relation for five parameter model is first developed and validity of these relations is checked. The non-homogeneous viscoelastic rods are assumed to be initially unstressed and at rest....
متن کاملPropagation of the Homogeneous Wave Front Set for Schrödinger Equations∗
In this paper we study the propagation of singularity for Schrödingertype equations with variable coefficients. We introduce a new notion of wave propagation set, the homogeneous wave front set, and it propagates along straight lines with finite speed away from x 6= 0. Then we show that it is related to the wave front set in a natural way. These results may be considered as a refinement of the ...
متن کاملCoupling layers regularizes wave propagation in stochastic neural fields.
We explore how layered architectures influence the dynamics of stochastic neural field models. Our main focus is how the propagation of waves of neural activity in each layer is affected by interlaminar coupling. Synaptic connectivities within and between each layer are determined by integral kernels of an integrodifferential equation describing the temporal evolution of neural activity. Excita...
